Chocolate is good for the soul!
As I was leaving Miss B's today, I was going to stop and use the bathroom, when a cute old man in the room opposite hailed me down.... [I was wearing a blue t-shirt so it's possible he thought I was one of the nurses (they wore blue today also).] He asked me very kindly for some chocolate, and as I told him I didn't think I had any on me, his face fell a little and muttered "okay, but they said they would call for some".. I felt bad, and told him my friend had some Peanut Butter Cups and he could have one of them, but he told me he didn't like those, he only liked Kisses.. Well, as there was nothing more for me to do, I went to the bathroom and then headed down the elevator. However the man would not leave my mind... So I headed back upstairs, asked at the nurses' station if he had any allergies, then went back downstairs and bought him a Hershey's bar. When I got back upstairs he'd finished his dinner, so I knocked on his door and presented him with the chocolate bar, his face lit up, then he seemed to have a thought, and he quietly asked "are there any nuts in it"? I told him no, it was a milk chocolate Hershey's bar, and he gave me a brilliant smile, then I left.
Moral of the story? Chocolate is good for the soul! I had been feeling like CRAP all day, but after being smiled at, by this sick and dying man, when all I did was give him some chocolate, I felt like a millionaire. He fed my soul!

Doodles...
I have started doodeling... and then I came across this super cool book at Barnes and Noble, that was a guide to "French doodeling"!!! I didn't know there was such a difference, but thought "what the heck" and also since I liked the style of the drawings I wanted to get it. When I saw the price however I quickly changed my mind, and decided to "Google" it instead.
THIS is what I found online |
and THIS is my own doodeling... flipped and badly lit but you get the gist of it... |
and THIS is an inspiration of another picture I found online. Someone had put something like this on a wall in a kids B-room |

Another meeting... another bar... or Bookstore...
I was fortunate to discover, while waiting for my roommate to join me, an event with one of the people I admire most in this world... Temple Grandin!!!
Author Sy Mongomery wrote a book for teenagers and their parents, with and about Miss Grandin, called "Temple Grandin: How the Girl Who Loved Cows Embraced Autism and Changed the World". And last night they were at Barnes and Noble presenting the book with an Q&A session. I had no idea beforehand but consider it very fortunate that I stumbled across this event.
Miss Grandin is a pioneer in so many ways, and I admire her so very much for the work that she does. I thought it was funny how most of the questions were about schools and raising children with Autism. And Temple had some really good ideas and answers. I was also able to present my questions:
1 - Who inspires you? and
2 - How do you find projects? Do you seek them out or do they come to you?
Temple's answers were really good. She credited her Science Teachers and Workshop Teachers as well as her parents as inspirational guides. And to the second question she told us she's always been creative and just found that "iron is just grown-up wood, and cement is grown-up clay/dirt".
In my mind when forming the question I was thinking more along the lines of the books she's written, tv-shows, movies, etc. so it was a bit of a surprise to me how she answered, until I thought about it and realized her answer was very apropo.
It was a really fun and intimate event, and I am ecstatic that I got to experience it! Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me!!! *scream* (when will I EVER learn????) But my roomie showed up and she did, so I did get a few pics. (Quality is so-so because I am not familiar with her camera!)
Have I mentioned I LOVE BEING BACK IN NYC??????????

A Look at the Sherlock Series 2 New York Event
proof that I was there! :D |

So wednesday morning I met up with one of the girls whom I had met at a Doctor Who fan group meeting last month, Areun (she's from Korea), and while waiting in line we met some other lovely girls. We united in our fandom of all things Steven Moffat/Benedict Cumberbatch, and had a great time waiting in line for almost 6 hours to get in to the Preview and Q&A.
Us six girls, total strangers the day before... now: bonds that ties us forever.. |

Who's excited??? MEEEEEE that's who!!! (pun definitely intended!!)
It was a great experience through and through, even though it became another late night for me. I'd definitely do it again. I met new friends, got to meet one of my favorite writers and had a lot of fun. Thanks to my fellow "original six" girls: Julie, Kathryn, Aerun, Catherine and Rebecca. Next month, let's make a group trip to Brooklyn, to the bar with the Tardis toilette!!
